A powerful collection of Zen-like images
entice viewers into the small spaces of each work (2x3" to 5x6")
while holding the connection in the moment. Neither simply notational
nor ever deliberately referential, the images convey an essential energy
and have a monumentality that belies their physical size. Each well-considered
work, whether framed alone or in groupings, has a cohesiveness of intention
that delivers the sense of a moment, singular in duration and spin. In contrast,
monotypes of deep somber color fill the final room- three large prints with a
circular format of undulating marks, and a suite of six implied landscapes with
sweeping horizontal direction and blasts of light and dark.
C. C. Vess exhibits at Gallery 10, with Group 93 of The American University,
and presented large scale installations at Art-O-Matic I and II. Exhibiting
nationally and internationally, she has shown etchings and paintings
most recently in Italy.
