REPAIRS shows oil paintings that are at once recognizable and
enigmatic. Dating from 2000 to 2002, they depict groups of highway construction barrels
in strange places. As forms in paintings, the banal objects have come to appear strangely
iconic, evoking figurative associations and traces of narrative. This is echoed in the
paintings sub-titles such as the Confrontation, Messengers, Refugees, Incident,
Prize and price, The Reporters. |
