"erased/retained", an exhibition of works on paper by Pittsburgh
artist R. E. Levine, focuses on ink, graphite or colored pencil marks on
handmolded or heavy paper. The process of marking and erasing or marking and
layering creates images that are buried, destroyed or reinvented-rather
like memory.
For this artist, art is memory, and the making of art the means by which the
past is erased or retained.
