Anne Banks has always been concerned with the evocative image - the visual presence which resonates with an emotional or archetypal element within the human psyche. In this exhibition she has focused on the continuity that extends from her early abstract work in the 1970's to the recent collages.
The icon, traditionally an object of worship or of spiritual content, is also an evocation of a powerful experience, place or the memory of a person. In the Jungian sense, these individual memories can be seen as a repository of the dream images which become part of the collective unconscious at the root of all human experience.
The artist has included a selection of drawings, sculpture, prints, paintings and collages which reflect the continuation of this concept throughout her work.
