Adrienne Heinrich, Artist of the Year, 2002 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania and member of
Gallery 10 presents a major exhibition of her work following an exhibition at the
Pittsburgh Center for the Arts.
Golden wheat growing inside a translucent fabric house inhabits most of the space in
one room. Furniture appears to recede into the surrounding gallery walls. In two
other rooms, translucent cast rubber and fabric become the media. Cast rubber totemic
figures contain floating objects inside, representative of our time and place. Markings
from ancient cultures on the outside emphasize a link between ancient and contemporary
cultures. They speak of the continual pull between body and spirit, while they celebrate
both. These installations focus on the sublime, but are rooted in the world.
