'Totem and Taboo', kiln cast glass sculptures, addresses the physical, spiritual, emotional and temporal aspects of human presence.
The Journey of Life Wall, 14' wide by 7' tall, represents the Totem. Seven steel panels hold 98 glass box castings, showing objects and figures that have been lost, found, forgotten or remembered from life.
The Taboo is represented by a tomb-like structure lit from within. Death is personified along the surface by three dimensional glass mummies of cats, dogs, birds and human figures.
Included in the exhibition are Raku clay bas-reliefs, monotype prints and zinc etching plates of 'ghost memory images' framed in cast glass.
Pittsburgh artist Judi Charlson addresses themes of interpersonal relationships as well as states of isolation.
